Why Roskilde?

With Glastonbury sales falling face down into the murky depths of unpopularity, there is only one festival that could possible knock Glastonbury out of the number one spot in terms of top European festivals – and that is the Roskilde festival.

Discovered in the same year as Glastonbury, Roskilde showcases the biggest and best acts around. Not only do they have a hot line-up, but Roskilde also extends its entertainment to wall climbing, skating, cinema, plus a whole host of arts entertainment.

Top Roskilde Highlights

Muse – Hysteria – 2007

In 1997, Muse, a band continuously hailed as one of the best live acts, took to the stage on ‘97 and played one of the most ferocious and enthusiastic gigs that Roskilde had ever witnessed. The crowd, wildly enthused and terrifyingly mesmerized, jumped and heaved their way though the set, going particularly wild for Hysteria.

Oasis – Don’t look Back in Anger – 1995.

At the height of Brit Pop, Oasis swaggered on to the main stage at Roskilde, bringing with them a stroke of arrogant genius and unleashing it into the fervent audience. The crowd, fixated by the Gallagher brothers, screamed their way along to their set, and let rip to Don’t Look Back in Anger.

Guns and Roses – 2006

Guns and Roses obliterated Roskilde in 2006 with a sharp set of stomping Rock anthems and splintering guitar riffs – never a band to let fans down.

Roskilde Travel – Transport Information

Roskilde is located 35 km from Copenhagen.
It is accessible by the train which stops at the festival’s very own train station.
If you travel by plane, there is direct train connection from Copenhagen Airport to Roskilde Station.
If you arrive by train from Hamburg or Berlin, take the train from Copenhagen to Roskilde Station.
From Roskilde Station there are shuttle busses and trains directly to the festival area.

Oasis will headline the Roskilde Festival this summer, it has been announced.

The Gallagher brothers join Coldplay at the head of the bill for the Danish event, with other names to be announced in the coming weeks.

Slipknot, Madness, Marnie Stern and The Soft Park are amongst the other acts set to play Roskilde, which takes place on July 2-5.

As reported yesterday, Oasis will also appear at Melt! in Ferropolis, Germany that month, before three shows at Wembley Stadium in September.

Coldplay’s performance will be one of only 3 festivals across the European Festival season. The others being Werchter and Arras. Coldplay’s first and last performance on the orange stage of Roskilde was back in 2003.

Coldplay are one of the worlds top rock acts, they sell out stadiums around the world and have sold over 30 million albums.

The four Brits broke through in 2000 with the album Parachutes. Since then they have rubbed shoulders with U2, Oasis and Radiohead. Bands that Coldplay is an obvious successor of with its grandiose arena rock and star-gazing ballads. A parade of hit singles and best-selling albums have kept Coldplay at the top of the game in the new millenium. Latest release is the EP Prospekt’s March which came out shortly after the album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.

We are happy to start festival season 2009 with a name that has just won the award of ‘Best Act In The World Today’ in the leading music magazine Q as well as ‘World’s Best Selling Recording Act’ at the World Music Awards 2008.

Enter Shikari

Enter Shikari take the unlikely musical pairing of Trance and Post-Hardcore Punk to create their diversely unique sound. Renowned for their gruelling touring schedule and draw-dropping live shows, the St Albans four piece have literally taken the world by storm by doing something that is not only new but has woken up the rave culture.

Judas Priest

With their spitting guitars and magnetic Metal vibe, Judas Priest are the core influence to many Heavy Metal bands today. With over thirty million record sales, there is no need to doubt that a live Judas Priest experience is going to be anything but a crashing sequence of crackling guitars and shuddering amps.

Kings Of Leon

Tennessee’s Kings Of Leon are leading the charge for the next wave of American Indie Rock. Adding Southern and Blues influences into the mix, this family of musicians have quickly built up a cult following of fans on both sides of the Atlantic with their first two artist albums and fine collection of singles such as “Molly’s Chambers” and “The Bucket”.

My Bloody Valentine

Irelands My Bloody Valentine found a place in the era of Shoegazing, a genre defined by a heavy use of distortion and reverb. Their sound relied heavily on the emotional and the melancholy, for some this sounded depressing, but for their millions of fans it contained energy and a sense of optimism. After a long split 2007 saw the band reunite and although there are no plans for new material as yet, who knows what the future may hold.

Neil Young

As part of various bands including Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Neil Young garnered hefty praise, but its Young’s solo work that really resonates with fans. Deeply personal lyrics and his distinct voice has always been a staple of one of rocks true icons

Radiohead

Oxford’s Radiohead have managed to re-invent their sound over again, starting out as melancholic indie crooners and then delving into the electronic has seen the band go from big to phenomenal. With endless hit’s spanning 15 years, Radiohead have had an undeniable impact on music since the nineties. They have just released their seventh album, In Rainbows, leaving a stream of controversy in its wake, as it could be downloaded for free.

Slayer

Slayer’s ‘Angel of Death’ is a song guaranteed to make any heavy metal follower grab their air guitar and swing their hair. Their 1986 release ‘Reign In Blood’ has been voted heaviest album of all time by rock magazine Kerrang and they’ve even won a Grammy Award for their song ‘Eyes Of The Insane’. Slayer have become one of heavy metals biggest and heaviest influencers.

The Chemical Brothers

Emerging in the mid nineties when Dance music ruled supreme, Grammy Award winners Tom Rowlands and Ed Simmons aka The Chemical Brothers continue to set the standard for post millennium dancefloors with their unique fusion of Techno, Breaks and Electronica.

The Streets

When The Streets debut single Has It Come To This hit the clubs and the airwaves in 2001, it was a really fresh boost for a flagging garage scene. People stood up and took real notice of what Skinner was saying and how he was saying it. From then on it was a non-stop road to success, with more hit singles, number one albums and critical acclaim coming in from every angle.

Battles

Experimental math rockers Battles have been described by Mojo magazine as ‘Future Funk’ and it’s easy to see why with their incredibly structured and technical amalgamation of electronic sounds, fuzz, static and percussion. Battles have to be seen to be believed.
